RE: Sani-Flush question

I took my rig to an RV dump just this weekend and used our Sani-flush system. When I disconnected my hose (the host from the rv dump), water back-flowed out of the sani-flush connection. While this water was clear, there is no doubt in my mind that this was contaminated water. I would definitely use a seperate hose.

RE: Satellite's

I've done the tri-pod and dish setup before, and it works. If you're even remotely close, the signal meter on your DirecTV box will beep and help you lock onto a good signal.
However, the LNBs on the home dishes are very sensitive to shock. We camp in the desert, where wind is a daily part of life. I've had 3 dishes blow over. After each blow over, the dish has failed to work.
I too am looking at going the VU-Cube route. I like the idea of a portable dish that is NOT attached to the vehicle.

RE: El Mirage Visitors Center

I was also out at ElMo over the weekend. I don't know whether my tolorance for recklessness was low, or whether the idiots were out in full force, but it did seem to me as if there were a lot of out of control riders/drivers yesterday. I was very nervous for my Four year old.
I for one, am happy see the visitors center, and don't mind having to pay a few bones. My hope is that with the new visitors center and the new fees that this will serve two purposes:
1 - Weed out the rif raff. Hopefully with the fees, the BLM will hire more rangers and patrol the area better.
2 - Preserve the OHV area. I read last week that the military base at 29 palms wants to annex some of the Johnson Valley riding area. Our riding areas are diminishing every year. If a measley daily or anuall fee helps ensure that we'll have a place to ride, I'll gladly pay it.
I realize these are hopes, and not necessarily reality, but so far, I like the improvements and old ElMo.

RE: Calif Raceway ???

OK Ya'll - It looks like Mother Nature wants to rain on our parade. She may dampen our race track, but not our spirits!
So who else is gonna be out there in the rain first thing tomorrow morning? Is it really necessary to be out first thing?

RE: Diesel Chip Programmer

Follands, thanks for the info. I'm assuming that one of the downfalls to increasing the HP with a chip programmer is higher engine temps (which in turn creates high exhaust temps).
The two aren't necessarily related. You can have high EGTs, but the engine (water) temp show as somehwhat normal. Ultimately, consistantly high EGTs will raise the engine (water) temp.
Also - just a programmer alone will not necessarily raise EGTs. Your right foot and engine load (based on what you're towing) will contribute to raising EGTs. Normal driving with a programmer shouldn't raise your EGTs excessively. Pushing the engine with an aggressive program will. Also - virtually all of the programmers out there offer several different levels of programs. Some have a Tow mode, which is a very mild tune designed to keep the EGTs down. Put on the highest setting (not recommended) and your EGTs will shoot high and your drive train will complain.

RE: Diesel Chip Programmer

EGT = Exhaust Gas Temperature. This is usually taken a probe inserted in the exhaust manifold before the turbo. Chevy does not have an EGT probe built in, so one must be installed.
Basically, if EGTs get too high, this can literally melt the fins of the turbo and/or cause other damage as well.

RE: Diesel Chip Programmer

If you're doing some heavy towing, you may want to look into a system that not only allows you to monitor the EGTs, but also has some built in protection that will automatically "back down" the program until the EGTs drop to a safe level. There's a few that do this:
The Edge Attitude/Juice
BullyDog PMT
The Banks Six-Gun tuner and PDA

RE: Manual shifting problem on new Chevy Diesel

Manual Mode doesn't necessarily let you select gears. It allows you to HOLD a certain gear. This is usefull when towing to prevent the transmition from "hunting" for a gear when going up a hill.

RE: Calif Raceway ???

We'll be in Row 4, spot 103 (I think). Come on over - we'll leave the light on, AND keep a beer cold for ya. We're in a WW SLC 3905 5ver.

RE: Sandpiper or Sierra - what's the difference?

In a word - Lipstick. Sandpiper and Sierra have different interior fabrics and exterior graphics. The floorplans, specifications, and options are the same.

RE: approx. duramax mileage?

Your mileage will depend on the truck itself:
Previous 2005 2500HD single rear wheel, 2 wheel drive - 17 to 18mpg mostly freeway driving with some stop and go - 10mpg towing 16K trailer.
New 2007.5 3500HD Dual Rear Wheel, 4 Wheel drive - 14mpg with same driving style. The transfer case, dual rear wheels, and new LMM motor really killed my mileage. Same 10mpg towing.

RE: Weight rating explanation please?

It kinda gives you an unsettling feeling, doesn't it?
I had a Sandpiper Sport (forst river product) garage model 5ver that had the exact same specs.

RE: California Speedway Camping Questions

It's kinda funny. Most of my friends aren't NASCAR fans. Now that my wife has told everyone about my gift, suddenly EVERYONE is a NASCAR fan and wants to camp in the infield with us. I already know they need to purchase wristbands to get in the infield. So...here comes more questions:
1 - Is there a limit to the number of people with wristbands that one site can hold at a time?
2 - If people come in on say Sunday, can they bring an icechest, or do we need to plan ahead and put everthing in the camper before we arrive?
3 - Does the speedway have the rules published on a website somewhere? Will they be mailing a packet with all of the rules?
4 - Is there a certain entrance I need to go in with the coach? I don't want to get stuck in regular parking with a 40' 5ver!

RE: '08 Chevy integrated brake controller

I have a 2007.5 (new body style) Chevy 3500 DRW DMax with the integrated brake controller. I tow a HEAVY 5ver (16K+), The integrated brake controller has worked flawlessly....in fact, it works better than the Prodigy I had in my previous vehicle. It only has one adjustment for signal strenght, so it's very easy to dial in. I use 8.0 out of 10. No jerky stops, no locking up. My only complaint is the placement of the controls (below and left of the steering column).
From what I've heard, the brake controller is OEM'd out from Tekonsha. I don't know how reliable that source is though.
FYI - the actual "guts" for the controller are placed in the frame near the left rear wheel. This presents a problem with some under the bed rails for 5th wheel hitches. I had to get a special bracket to move the controller away from the frame to install the rail kit for the Reese Signature Series hitch.
Hope that helps!

RE: Weekend Warrior SLC slide issues?

I don't think there are any issues with the insulation from either of the slides. In fact, since the couch/bed cousin covers the seams of the opening, it's probably the most insulated part of the coach.
I love our Warrior (SLC) and found it to be one of the most finished products on the market. We've only had ours out on one trip and only had minor issues. One of the issues being that we emptied 3 5 gallon propane tanks in a 5 days. I'm not sure if we have a leak, or other issues. I don't think that in general the WW is the best insulated coach for cold weather. There is a post on here where someone outlined their improvements insulating in cold weather. I'm planning on doing some of these mods myself. click here
Hope that helps.

RE: California Speedway Camping Questions

Very cool! Thanks for your responses. I've been to numerous racing events (NASCAR, NHRA, IRL, Sprint Cars), but have NEVER camped in the infield. I've always been up in stands.
Hopefully see ya next month.

RE: Weekend Warrior SLC slide issues?

I found this picture on another thread. It shows the slide out with the couch in the transport position. As you see, the slide has no floor.

RE: Weekend Warrior SLC slide issues?

We have a SLC 3905 with the "Wide Slide" in the living area. WW is correct, the slide doesn't have a floor, just the two side walls and the roof. The couch/bed when down closes the opening. When you open the slide with the couch up in transport position, there is an opening to the ground. It almost looks like a urinal! When you put the couch down, it closes this opening. When the slide is closed, there is no opening.
It's difficult to explain, but it works very well. We have a little chinese knock-off buggy and the slide works perfectly with it. We haven't had any issues with the slider mechanism.
